We offer chemical peels at The Spa Clinic, which serves the residents of Washington, DC, Arlington, Alexandria, Gainesville and surrounding areas of Northern Virginia.
Though the term “chemical peel” may sound abrasive, it’s really not. Actually, a chemical peel simply refers to the types of chemical treatments used to exfoliate and invigorate the skin, making it appear flawless and radiant.
There are many people who would like to enhance their skin’s appearance or eliminate unsightly blemishes and damage caused by the sun, medical treatments or even aging, but would rather not undergo surgery or a traditional facelift. A chemical peel may be the right solution. Before proceeding with any type of treatment, however, it is important to first consult with the right physician who can evaluate your needs and prescribe the right types of treatment.
A chemical peel employs the use of a chemical solution, most likely a type of acid, which will essentially peel away the top layers of the epidermis. This will aid in improving conditions such as acne, wrinkles, blemishes or uneven pigmentation and leave skin feeling rejuvenated and clean.
Chemical peels have been used for many years and only continue to grow in popularity, mainly due to the improvement in the skin’s texture following treatment. The Spa Clinic offers two types of chemical peels to meet the needs of its patients:
Lactic acid peels, which are applied cool so there is no burning sensation, require about six to eight treatments, each lasting about 60 to 90 minutes, for maximum results. There is no downtime, and makeup can be applied immediately after treatment. Patients may experience a mild redness following the procedure, and one to three days later, may notice mild to moderate skin peeling.
TCA peels are considered a skin-resurfacing treatment as it removes dead skin cells and uncover a new layer of skin, enhancing the patient’s overall facial appearance. It softens fine lines and diminishes age spots, acne scars and other skin discolorations. It also can improve tone and texture of the skin.
More than one TCA peel treatment may be recommended, depending on the patient’s goals for their skin’s appearance, and treatment sessions are generally scheduled two to three months apart. To increase this peel’s effectiveness, it may be combined with another skin-enhancing treatment, such as microdermabrasion.
