WHAT IS MOLE REMOVAL?

Mole removal is a procedure that Dr. Arzadon recommends to patients who want to remove a mole for cosmetic or health reasons. While most moles are not cause for concern, some moles may actually be signs of advanced skin cancer. If you have a mole that you would like examined or removed, call our office to schedule a consultation appointment.

BENEFITS OF MOLE REMOVAL

If you have a mole that is not cancerous, the benefits of mole removal are cosmetic, and you no longer need to feel self-conscious about your appearance. A cancerous mole does require mole removal to ensure that the cancer does not spread. Malignant melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer and the disease can spread to your other organs if left untreated.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR MOLE REMOVAL?

With the exception of cancerous moles, determining if mole removal is right for you is largely a personal decision. Dr. Arzadon is happy to examine your mole and discuss your treatment goals during a consultation appointment. A tissue sample from the mole may be required to determine if the mole is cancerous.

THE MOLE REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Moles are typically removed in one of two ways. The first procedure is excision where the mole is cut away from the healthier surrounding tissue. The second procedure, known as a surgical shave, is performed by using a sharp blade to cut around and underneath the mole. Typically, this method is used for smaller moles.
